Earlier this week we talked about the importance of AWE in our life and not missing out on the AWE of God.
But here is the follow-up question to reigniting our AWE. What if we just stand in AWE and it does not change how we live, how we think, how we do our job, how we relate to others, and how we worship?
I remember being at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio standing beneath some of their roller coasters and being in AWE of how high they went and the twists and turns they had. And as I stood in AWE, I knew without a doubt that I was NOT getting on any of them. My thought was, “You have to be out of your mind to get on that coaster.” See, I was amazed at the coaster but I was not willing to put that amazement into action.
The same can happen with us and God. We can stand amazed and in AWE of God and leave with just a feeling or a quick “spiritual buzz” and not be changed. It might make for good discussion but we do not live it out. As author Paul Tripp said, “God doesn’t want to just blow our mind, He wants to rule our heart.”
Psalm 27:4 says “One thing have I asked of the Lord, one thing I desire; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.” This is when AWE turns into life change. When He is our only desire and all that we want to look at and run after.
So, next time God amazes you, stop and take Him in. What is He showing you? What part of His divine nature is He showing you? How is this going to change your life, your attitude, your view of God?
Don’t just be amazed, BE CHANGED!
